The Early Years
2014 The first Uke-a-Bay festival, way back in 2014, kicked off with an evening in the White Lion in Llanelian with Del Taylor & Clarice Wokes, just a short stroll up a very steep hill from Colwyn Bay. That was followed on the Saturday by a whole day of alfresco and indoor performances from local bands and visiting groups.
Saturday’s big event was the evening concert at The Interchange, where N’Ukes , Chonkinfeckle and Raymondo & The Ukuladies played to a packed house while three local Mayors got up to dance. Now that’s not something you see every day. (Thanks to Linda Hurst for the photos).
On Sunday, Rhos Fynach hosted an afternoon with The Mersey Belles, Dead Man’s Uke, Chonkinfeckle, Zahra Lowzley and The Colwyn Bay Ukulele Group.
2015 Started off in The White Lion again. This time with a set from The Denizens. Saturday saw outdoor performances around Colwyn Bay with the main venue being at En Gedi. Our local bands were joined by Ukes At The Wharf (from Ormskirk) and ‘Fagin’ from Fagin’s Boys.
As hush descended on Colwyn Bay’s town centre once more, Uke-a-Bay took over Theatr Colwyn for Saturday evening’s concert, featuring A D Cooke, Chonkinfeckle and Clarice Wokes.
Sunday afternoon at The Station, you could have seen A D Cook, Chonkinfeckle, Fagin’s Boys, Bernard Morris & Ken Middleton, plus our local bands CBUG & Woteva.
Fagin’s Boys were at the Green Room late on Sunday too.
